Overview: The battery replacement process for the iPhone 3G easier than the 2G.  It involves removing the touch screen glass, then system board at which time you will have access to the battery bay.  It's really difficult to damage your iPhone during the process because of Apple's better hardware build on this model.  Don't damage, crush or puncture the existing battery to limit the risk of fire.  Follow the video and you'll be successful in the battery replacement process.

Use a suction cup to remove touch screen glass

Leverage camera out of the optic assembly prior to removing the system board

Keep screws in order as some of the screws are of different size and type

Prior to screen reassembly, bend ribbon connector #3 to allow for good angle of attack when reinserting

When reinserting the system board, the front edge near the camera needs to fit under a lip near the SIM opening

Do NOT puncture the battery.  Use wide tools to remove battery and prevent puncture.  This will reduce the risk of fire
